I just had the same thing happen, there was no way I was going to give my 16 digit account number to just anyone who calls and asks for it. I hung up and called the number on the back of my card and spoke with someone at the bank, verified the last four digits of the card and my social and they informed me that there were several charges from the Apple store and $150 for web hosting. I dont have an Ipod or IPhone or do any web hosting so I said NO WAY, they closed the account immediately and told me they will send me a new card. While online I noticed my available balance had dropped as of yesterday and the bank told me there are more charges accruing. What a frightening deal, I never use the card except for emergencys and I check my accounts online every day, I sure am glad I do and that I took the time to research the 1-800 number the calls were coming from. Thank you so much for your postings, my mind is now at ease.

I received a similar call. 1) I do not think the Walmart leadership would approve of such a negative use of their company name, as this certainly tarnishes the brand which theyve invested so much to cultivate. Someone (probably a robo-dialer) repeatedly called my home phone and hung up quickly after just a couple of rings. A number was left on my caller I.D. Then, I called the number back several times. It seemed as though they were calling on behalf of Walmart because they used Walmarts name, promising a Walmart Voucher as a free gift. I expressed extreme disinterest and disapproval. They were very uncooperative, and they did not want to let me speak to supervisors. They also tended to ignore whatever I said as they kept returning to their sales script. They claimed to have gotten my number from someone that I purchased something from, but I do not give my number out in any way or for any transactions. They claimed to be a company called Iprox Premiums out of Tampa, Florida. The number that was left on my caller ID (which I called back) was 281-860-2281. This was a Houston 281 exchange and when I asked them about it, they said they were using an internet voice-over to make the call. Several of the people I spoke with had accents from the country of India. The phone bank supervisors name was supposedly Jasmine Davis, but another caller also used the name Jasmine Smith. They refused to give me information about their company -no number that I could call, no person in charge. Rude, offensive, non-responsive (except that they would put me down as a do not call.) Someone needs to get a handle on telephone number and other information abuses. Attorney Generals or somebody.

the best way I found out how to handle calls like these was to buy a landline phone blocker. ( check on line or ebay) best investment I made. around 50 t0 60 bucks, and can hold up to 1500 numbers. now I only get one call like this a week or two weeks. once you put the number in it will only ring once and the call blocker takes over and disconnects the call. never have to get out of your chair.
