Colour
The red colour in several nuances – from light red to the colour of rotten sour cherry prevails on the Pirot kilim.It has been made of crimson and used for weaving fields. The blue colour is offen represented which was gained of natural indigo with a little yellow colour. The green colour had its place between the red and blue one.
From the mid 19th century begins the use of the white colour, too – till then onion leaves colour (beige) has been used. The colours on the Pirot kilim have primarily territorial – ethnic features. They are calm and warm, smothered dark, sometimes brave stronger but always a part of a harmonious composition.
